When the Morning Run Becomes Lots of Fun

Whether you have a small family or a large one. Morning time with kids can always be an adventure. It can be a little chaotic, or it can be one of the most fun parts of the day. For us, we try to choose the latter. It isn’t always easy, but here are three things that you can do as parents to brighten the day right from the start:
START A ROUTINE
One of the first things that helped us as we started to have children was to establish a routine that we would stick to as often as we could. Sometimes its good to change things up now and then, but in general we do try to follow it. It helps the kids to know that this is the time to get ready for the day. The best part is that you can make it be your own routine, there is no rule that says you have to do any certain thing. Over the years we let the kids have the fun time of planning how they want the mornings to go (within reason of course :) ).
THROW IN SOMETHING FUN
Kids love to be surprised, and when you get to put a little mix in with the routine with something fun the kids can use, or even play with, it will go a long way to make this a fun time of the day. We teamed up with Colgate to surprise the two littlest ones with the Colgate® Kids Interactive Powered Toothbrushes. You would think we just took them to the moon. The first time using them was probably one of the funniest moments to remember. There are several fun things about the toothbrushes that the kids, and we loved as well:
- Brush Coach- Characters’ voices coach your children through two minutes of brushing and congratulate them when finished (Evyianne especially loved this one)
- Quadrant Timer- Characters’ voices tell your children when and where to move to and brush each quadrant of their mouth (Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Right)
- 2 Minute Timer- Characters’ voices inform your children when 2 minutes of brushing is up and congratulate them on a job well done. Dentists recommend brushing your teeth for 2 minutes.
- The nicest thing about the brushes is that they have several different options to choose from: two of our favorites were the Minions (our kids love them), and also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
INCORPORATE TOYS TO TEACH
Early on we saw how the kids loved to practice everyday things with their toys, and so we let them do that wherever possible. You would be surprised at how much easier it is for your toddler to learn to brush his own teeth when you show him how to brush his little fox’s teeth. Evyianne loves to brush his little foxes teeth “to make sure his teeth are clean too” :) Playtime can really be teaching time.
The most important thing about setting up your own routine is to remember to have a good time doing it, and the morning can be a great start to each and every day.
