Kid Approved Smoothie Recipies

Kid Approved Smoothie Recipies

Summer is almost done, and back to school is in full swing, and to make the transition easier, the kids and I have been testing different recipes for fun breakfasts and lunches. We love fresh smoothies for breakfast, but this year we have wanted to add variety to menu. The other day, Nikola asked about trying to make their own smoothie bowls, a favorite from one of the local cafes near our house. If you have never seen them before it is a fun take on breakfast where you start with a smoothie base and add your favorite fresh fruits and granola or cereal if you prefer. You can eat it in the bowl or in the cup, but you do need a spoon for it. We teamed up with Annie’s Homegrown to create some really fun recipes.

The kids all put their heads together to make a few different recipes to try. It turned out to be a big hit, and Elia fell in love with each one, she especially liked the cereal sprinkles mixed with the smoothie. Here are some of their favorites:

Super Green Bowl (Makes 4 bowls)

2 handfuls of fresh spinach
1 handful of kale
1 1/2 cups of water
1 avocado
1 handful of grapes
1 kiwi
1 apple
1 banana
2 cups of ice
Annie’s Homegrown Berry Bunnies Cereal
honey to sweeten (If desired)

In a large blender/vita mix add water first, then greens, followed by fruit and avocado (Diced into large chunks). Finish with sweetener and add the ice. Cover and blend until smooth. Pour into 4 bowls (about halfway to 3/4 of the way up as desired). Top with fresh fruit and berries. We also like to add Annie’s Homegrown Berry Bunnies Cereal to make the bowls more nourishing. Its certified organic made with made whole grain oats, whole grain corn and rice, dried and pureed fruit and berries, and it has 15g of whole grain per serving.

Mango Monster (Makes 4 Bowls)

1 1/2 cups of water
1 to 2 mangos (fresh if you have them or frozen is ok, just leave out the ice if you use frozen fruit.)
1 banana
1 apple
2 cups of Ice
Annie’s Homegrown Berry Bunnies Cereal

Add water first and then the fresh fruit. Add frozen fruit or ice last, cover and then blend until smooth. Pour into the bowls and add your favorite toppings. Nadya loved the Annie’s Berry Bunnies in this one!

Strawberry Berry Blast (Makes 4 Bowls)

1 handful of fresh spinach
1 1/2 cups of water
8 to 10 fresh strawberries (or frozen)
1 avocado
1 cup blueberries
1 apple
2 cups of Ice
Annie’s Homegrown Berry Bunnies Cereal
honey to sweeten (if desired, it will be a little tart by itself)

Same as the other two put the water first then the fresh fruit and finish with frozen items, Blend until smooth. For toppings, sliced bananas and peaches are great for this one along with some Annie’s Berry Bunnies, or if you are in the mood for a little strawberry chocolate, the Cocoa Bunnies are great to add in with bananas.

Enjoy!

The most important part is to experiment and find the taste that you like the best. This has become a new favorite around here, and we can’t wait to hear about some of your creations. Make sure to stop by the local Target, and also be sure to download their Cartwheel App to get some of the best deals throughout the back to school season.
