A Little Father and Son Time
This post has been sponsored by Rogaine® but all throughs and opinions are my own.
A few weeks ago I partnered up with Rogaine® to talk about male pattern hair loss. Evyianne, my little sidekick followed me everywhere, and now a new baby is here, and both Evyianne and Nikola have a new little brother. In today’s partnership I want to deviate a little bit into parenting and relationships.
Sometimes it seems that it wasn’t too long ago that he was as little as Elisey, and Olya and I were brand new parents. I probably don’t say it often enough, but Nikola really is a rockstar. He is always there to lend a helping hand, and it is always welcome as we tend to the needs of the new baby. I don’t do it often enough, but the other day I just wanted to take some time and just get out with Nikola to catch up on everything and just have some good father and son time.
I have always felt that it is important to share some of the lessons that I have learned since being a parent, and I want Nikola to be more prepared for things than I was. There are so many things that I wish that I had known that now I can share with him. I’m always amazed though at how much Nikola has picked up over the years.
One of our favorite things to do these days when we go out is to go by some of the local cafes for some coffee, hot chocolate, and snacks. We decided to try out a new place a few streets away, and we were not disappointed. We happened to catch it at a fairly slow time, so we had lots of opportunity just to sit and catch up.
While talking about all those things that teenagers love to talk about, school, girls and some of his favorite things to do, he also asked me about how things were going with my hair. It’s no secret at home that I have started using Rogaine®, but this was the first time we had a chance since the baby came to really just have time to talk. You wouldn't think that he should be concerned at all with his hair, but the question did come up, and since I started this project together with Rogaine® to bring a little more awareness about hair loss out into the open (and did you know, August is Hair Loss Awareness Month?), I shared some of the things I have been learning.
Everyone, as they age, could potentially see some level of hair loss, some more than others. Our hair follicles do shrink as we age, but the amount that they do is largely due to our genes. Fortunately, I shared with Nikola that on Olya’s side hair loss isn’t a big thing, so with it only really coming from my side, he may not get it at all or as strong. He was happy about that (He likes his hair :) ).
The nice thing though is that if you start treating it right at the onset, there is a good chance that you can reduce the loss and start growing fuller, thicker hair again. I had mentioned that in my last post about my hair journey that I had tried other natural methods before, but nothing really had an effect on me, and to date, no other topical treatment has been proven to regrow and restore hair as fast or as good as Rogaine® does.
Since I wrote last I got a few questions about why Rogaine® works the way it does. I think the Rogaine® team explains the process really well.
"Rogaine® (minoxidil) boosts follicle activity to kick off the hair growth cycle and start creating more hair proteins – the building blocks of strong, healthy hair. Unlike thickening shampoos which temporarily coat the hair, Rogaine® products penetrate the scalp so that new, fuller and thicker hair can be grown. While minoxidil works to boost hair follicle activity and hair protein production for long-lasting hair density when used daily, Tricho-Prime Technology™ works on contact to prime the scalp for the optimal hair growth environment. Botanical extracts and emollient help maintain a healthy conditioned scalp, and Alphahydroxy acid (AHA) promotes natural skin exfoliation to help keep follicles open.”
The most important thing though is to consistently use the product day and night. It really has only taken a few seconds each time, so it has been easy to just incorporate it into my regular morning and night routine. This way it keeps working even while you sleep. It’s been a few months now, and I have already started to see some improvement, the shiny spot that was forming on top of my head isn’t as shiny now. Olya has said she already can notice a difference.
Now, this may not be something Nikola will see as he grows, but it’s great to know that there are options readily available out there.
Back to our day out, we finished our time at the cafe and went to go check out some of the other shops in the area, and while we were out we picked up a tag along :) Evyianne decided he wanted to be “out with the boys” too, so we stopped by to bring him as well. He always likes being out with his big brother. I wish there was more time in the day to spend with my boys, which now we have a third, so it will be extra fun for the future, and hopefully they will all grow up a little more prepared and stronger than I was. There for sure will be surprises along the way, but hopefully they will be ready to face them head on, and I will always be there to give them the support they need.
PS: Can you guys see the progress? I can totally see the progress from the last few months! Just look! The first row of images is from a few months ago, and I can absolutely see more hair growth and less scalp showing!
