3 Things to Do When Your Birthday Falls Around the Holidays

Many of you have asked what we do for our kids whose birthdays are right around the Holidays. In our family this actually happens twice since Yeva has her birthday at the start of the month and Nikola has his birthday right after Christmas. As it turns out we have met many families that share the same predicament. The question is always, how to make the child feel special when they are already getting gifts this time of year.

One of the most important things that we have always done is to plan a little ahead of time to make sure we do something separate for the kids just as if it was at any other time of year, but there are also a few ideas that we have done that can help,.

So, here are 3 Ideas for things to do to celebrate birthdays around the Holidays:

Host a Holiday Themed Party Just For Them:
It seem self explanatory, but this time of year has many opportunities for fun decorations and activities that are going on, so take advantage of the season and throw an extra party just for the birthday child. For little kids having fun games like cookie decorating, snow globe making, etc. can be a lot of fun. For older kids we like to take advantage of some of the seasonal things such as Ice skating.

Hold a Party for Friends Earlier in the Month:
One challenge that we often faced with Nikola is that since his birthday falls right after Christmas it was difficult to invite friends to the party as many are traveling or wanting to spend time with their families during the holiday break. This can also happen for summer birthday kids as many are away for the Summer vacation. A great solution we found was to hold a party a bit earlier in the year and invite all the friends to party. It gives them the opportunity to have all their friends, and they get to feel that they get to celebrate just as much as any other kid does.

Make the Day Just For Them:
For us we have always made it so that the child celebrating the birthday gets to choose whatever fun things they would like to do on their day. We make a little extra effort not to plan any other Holiday events on this day so that they know it is still their special day.

Continuing on with our fun guides for those last minute gift ideas, today we share some fun ideas for anyone on your list that is a wellness and or foodie at heart.

Happy Holidays From All of Us!
